Kiefer's New Hat
So I keep forgetting to explain Kiefer's new headgear. For the next 4-5 months Kiefer will be wearing this "DOC band" 23 hours a day. It is helping to fix the shape of his head so it will become more round. As a result of his prematurity and some range of motion issues he had last year, his head is flat on the sides and the point in the back of his head is way off center. The NICU nurses call it a toasterhead! The "helmet", as we call it, does not seem to bother Kiefer at all and after a couple weeks we have gotten used to it too. And now that he is crawling and pulling himself up, it is also serving a dual purpose of softening his falls when he bonks his head.
